As the Executive Producer of See Hear Love, I felt we needed to address this layered and hard topic… of the allure & dangers of the Christian Celebrity (Church) Culture. Here's WHY:

* We’re seeing well-known Christian Leaders in the Evangelical Christian world splayed out on the news – for abusing their power, for choosing to engage in extramarital affairs, for lying, for sexually assaulting vulnerable women. It’s been a constant conversation in my circles and spheres of influence. We’re trying to make sense of it, their decisions…  and the systems and cultures of some churches that have created an environment that worships the pastor or leader rather than Jesus and leaders who feel they are untouchable, entitled and above reproach.

* I was stopped by a Millennial colleague at my work a few months ago, who wanted my opinion about WHY leaders ‘feel like they can make whatever decisions they want with complete disregard for others and those that follow them and Jesus?’ I know that while it was this one specific person who asked for my thoughts and wisdom, he represents, what I believe, other young people’s sentiments and who may be feeling the same way and asking the same questions.

* I wanted to unpack this in a respectful way and talk about the effect these public failings have and are having on us. It’s not about bashing people or gossiping – we wanted to have a healthy and honest conversation around this topic. Because … this behaviour does impact the way that people view the church and Jesus.

* To acknowledge the victims, their stories, their voice.

* I don’t want what certain leaders have done, to stop people from pursuing Jesus and learning about Him.

@pattiemallette was a guest on Full Circle in 2008, sharing with Host @ann_mainse the incredible story of God completely turning her life around. As Ann writes in her blog post, "With guarded excitement and an air of uncertainty, she told us that her life was about to change. Remarkably, God seemed to be opening doors for her son to pursue his music. Her son was 14-years-old… and his name was @justinbieber."

Read more on Ann's blog (link in bio) about these special guests, and how our @crossroads.ca team prayed with this sweet family... "a powerful, strong, warrior prayer, one that, no doubt, connected with the heart of God. It was a prayer that propelled the rest of us to keep praying for this young man long after he left our studios."
