Jesus' Encounters with Women

The Gospels are filled with moments when Jesus stopped, listened, saw, touched, spoke, and responded to women in ways that were deeply countercultural. In each encounter, Jesus reveals something about His character—and something about the woman standing before Him.

As you journey through these three encounters, allow yourself to slow down and imagine the scene. Consider the cultural context, the emotions, the questions, and the faith of each woman. Most importantly, look closely at Jesus. What does He say? What does He do? How does He respond? What does each encounter reveal about who He is?

How to Use This Guide:

1. Read the Scripture slowly.
   Begin each study by reading the biblical passage carefully. Read it more than once and allow the details of the story to come alive.
2. Meet the woman in her story.
   Consider her circumstances, her culture, her fears, her hopes, and what she may have been carrying before she encountered Jesus.
3. Look closely at Jesus.
   Pay attention to His words, actions, compassion, questions, and responses. Ask yourself: What does this encounter reveal about Jesus?
4. Explore the context.
   Learn about the historical and cultural background that helps us understand why these encounters were so significant and, in many cases, so revolutionary.
5. Reflect on transformation.
   Ask how each woman’s life changed because she encountered Jesus. What did she receive from Him? What did she discover about herself, her faith, and God?
6. Watch and listen.
   Engage with the accompanying teaching and allow the insights of the Bible teachers to deepen your understanding of the Scripture.
7. Ask honest questions.
   Use the discussion and reflection questions to explore what challenges, encourages, or surprises you. There are no wrong questions when we are genuinely seeking Jesus.
